About Robert Ferdowsmakan, DMD, MD
Robert Ferdowsmakan, DMD, MD is the founder and medical director of a state-of-the-art oral and maxillofacial surgery center. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan is passionate about Corrective Jaw Surgery and has helped numerous patients benefit from corrective jaw surgery over his 16-year career. He is one of a select group of surgeons in San Diego County that regularly performs corrective jaw surgery.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan is actively involved in the treatment of maxillofacial trauma. He is a member of the medical staff at local major trauma centers serving large geographic regions of San Diego County, including Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Sharp Memorial Hospital and Rady Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan regularly donates his time and services to volunteer work in the local San Diego community and beyond. He is proud to be affiliated with Fresh Start Surgical Gifts and has donated tens of thousands of dollars of free surgical services to his patients over the past six years. He hopes to continue his affiliation with Fresh Start Surgical Gifts for many years to come.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan is the past Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. He currently holds the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the San Diego County Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Study Club.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan received his undergraduate degree in Biology at Arizona State University. He was then accepted into the University of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine, an Ivy League University. He graduated with top honors and was awarded the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award For Excellence.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. He completed his surgical training at the UCLA Medical Center, which included an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Community Involvement
Dr. Robert Ferdowsmakan utilizes his passion for making a difference in and out of his practice. He donates his time to charitable and humanitarian efforts and enjoys giving back to those who need it most. Dr. Ferdowsmakan has been a volunteer surgeon with local nonprofit Fresh Start Surgical Gifts since 2010, whose mission is to provide free-of-cost reconstructive surgeries and other related healthcare services for children with physical deformities caused by birth, accidents, abuse or disease. Dr. Ferdowsmakan has operated on children with dentofacial deformities, cleft palate, hemifacial microsomia and other congenital and acquired deformities. These reconstructive surgeries are life-changing events for patients and their families. Dr. Ferdowsmakan was named Volunteer Surgeon of the Year 2014 by Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan’s volunteerism goes beyond local organizations. He has volunteered his time with Smiles International Foundation, a charity that provides surgical treatment for children with cleft lip and palate, and craniofacial birth defects all over the world. Dr. Ferdowsmakan has traveled on several occasions to Tecate, Mexico to provide surgical services to patients in need.
Through his work with Thousand Smiles, a nonprofit organization focused on care of the less fortunate children in Mexico who suffer from lack of dental care and from maxillofacial deformities such as cleft palate, Dr. Ferdowsmakan was able to help care for children and infants with cleft palate and other craniofacial birth defects in Ensenada, Mexico.
